The first generation of Toyota Wish (ZNE10G) is very popular to Malaysian market for the last few years. Even when the second generation already been launched, there are still plenty of "old" Wishes running around with new registration plate.
There are many different specifications of this car available, as usual for JDM cars. Plenty of options are available too. It is very hard to find a consolidated information as details of this cars are scattered around the sites, forums and directory with various languages. Hence, the purpose of this entry is as a one-stop centre for potential Wish buyer who want to know the detail of their potential ride. I will cover the details of specification, engine option and equipment level for each variants.

Generally, the car is 4550mm long with 1695mm width and 1590mm of height. The wheelbase is 2750mm and importantly, the interior length is 2670mm. The car has 5 proper seats ( or 4 in 2.0Z) plus 2 third row seat.
There are two engine available, a 1.8 L 1ZZ-FE engine, producing 132 PS and 170 Nm of power and torque. This model is only available with four-speed automatic. A 2.0 L version is equipped with the 1AZ-FSE direct-injection engine, with 155 PS and 192 Nm of power and torque respectively. This variant comes only with a CVT gearbox. However, there is another version for Thailand market ( which also exported to Malaysia) that comes with 2.0 1AZ-FE engine as the ASEAN Camry instead of the 1AZ-FSE. This is port injected engine instead of direct injection. The ASEAN version also gets a conventional 4 speed auto transmission instead of CVT as well as double wishbones rear suspension from 4WD JDM Wish.
For the drivetrain, the 1.8 version is available with front wheel drive (FWD) and four wheel drive (4WD). 2.0 version is available only with the former. Speccing the 4WD will also give you a double wishbone rear suspension instead of torsion beam setup for FWD version ( expect that 2.0Z comes only with FWD + double wishbone rear suspension).
Toyota Wish was first introduced in January 2003 in Japan market. The car was facelifted at the end of 2005, with a host of cosmetic modifications include headlights, bumpers, LED tail-lights revised switchgear for the climate control and automatic transmission with the 2.0Z received a preset 7 ratios for its CVT.

Please note that 2.0 variant comes with CVT gearbox. Make sure you can accept this kind of gearbox before deciding. If you still prefer a 2.0l engine and yet insist on conventional torque converter 4 speed auto transmission, your choice is only limited to used UMW's Toyota Wish.
Variants available
Malaysian seller usually only describe the car as "low spec" and "high spec". But there are more than just two variants of Wish. The specification is also sometimes mixed, as buyers in Japan have access to vast choice of cost options.
As described in the table above, there are many specs of Toyota Wish. Apart from having a differentiated drivetrain combo, the trim level is also different. This will be explain by pictorial description below.

1.8XE (pre-facelift)
XE is the cheapest variant of Toyota Wish one can buy. With this spec, you get no arm rest, no seat back pocket, 2 speaker set up, no under seat tray, no luggage lamp, no steering switch option and pretty much as spartan as you can get!

1.8 XS (pre-facelift)
2.0G (pre-facelift)
This variant is very similar to 1.8X spec model.Among the minor different is the higher grade meter and seat back pocket for both driver and passenger side. The CVT box does not comes with sequential shift though.
2.0 Z (pre-facelift)
This is the highest spec of all Wish that comes with all bells and whistles. Compared to "G" model, this version comes in 6 seater configuration, with two captain chairs for second row. The CVT box comes with 6 preset sequential option.
Facelift model ( end 2005 onwards).
At the end of 2005, Toyota Wish get a host of update which are mostly cosmetic. They consist of new headlamp design, reprofiled front and rear bumpers, LED tail light and 2.0Z version gets a sequential 7 speed CVT, one up from previous model. Equipment and specification level are more or less similar with the pre-facelift one.
