Volvo Concept Coupe : A P1800 Remake

Volvo today released the information of its newest concept car, called Volvo Concept Coupe, which was the mysterious concept car that went viral in the internet this week.Inspired by contemporary, progressive Scandinavian lifestyle and design, as well as iconic elements from the past, the elegant new Volvo Concept Coupé is the first of a series of three concept cars that reveal the design possibilities created by the company’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA).The concept car is the first design by the new Senior Vice President of Design, Thomas Ingenlath, showcases how design builds emotion into the Volvo brand and points towards the next generation of Volvo models, starting with the forthcoming XC90 in 2014. Developed in-house for Volvo Cars only, the Scalable Product Architecture liberates Volvo’s designers and engineers from the limitations of previous cross-brand platforms.

The visual impact of the new proportions is most powerful when viewing the Volvo Concept Coupé from the side. The distance between the dashboard and the front axle is extended and the greenhouse has been moved slightly rearwards, reminiscent of the memorable P1800 Coupe.

A low bonnet, roof, and the five-spoke, 21-inch wheels also contribute to the impression of an elegant Gran Tourer oozing effortless power. The confident stance is emphasised by a beltline that spans an elegant bow along the whole car.

The face of the Volvo Concept Coupé is characterised by a new topography on the bonnet and the ‘floating’ grille, flanked by headlights featuring new T-shaped DRL light guides. Just like the rear light signature, the DRL lights are distinctive elements in the new design direction of Volvo Cars.

The blue-grey exterior is echoed on the inside of the Volvo Concept Coupé. Refined, handcrafted elements such as the leather instrument panel, inlays made of naturally aged wood and the dark blue woven carpets are blended with beautifully machined metal details.”

The concept car also includes a totally new approach to Volvo Cars’ human-centric user experience. A large portrait touch-screen in the centre console interacts with an adaptive digital display and head-up display in front of the driver.

The concept car features a two-litre high-performance Drive-E petrol engine with a supercharger and turbo. The petrol engine is teamed with an electric motor on the rear axle. This gives Volvo Concept Coupé a total output of around 400 hp and over 600 Nm of torque

The petrol plug-in hybrid driveline in the Volvo Concept Coupé reflects Volvo Cars’ strategy to use electrification to create the most powerful versions in the new four-cylinder Drive-E engine family. BMW unveiled Active Tourer Concept

BMW has released the detail about its upcoming concept car bound for Paris Motorshow, the Active Tourer Concept. The car was commissioned to satisfy the need of customers of premium segment who appreciate a high level of comfort, raised seating position and generous amount of space, in a compact dimension. The industry is very sure that the car previews the forthcoming 1 Series Gran Tourismo, or 1 Series GT.

Conceptually, the car will rivals Mercedes B-Class, its fellow German competitor. As with the Stuttgart rival, Active Tourer Concept sits on a front wheel drive platform, a sign that BMW is contemplating a shift to FWD in its lower end car. It is a platform that will spawned the next generation MINI cars.

Apart from the glitzy show car touch, Active Tourer Concept is more or less production ready in its outlook. Ditch the gigantic alloys and some fancy trimmings, it is as good as go.The front end is characterized by the large headlight that bears similar internals with the F30, while the chunky bumper looks nothing like a pure concept car either. Side profile is dominated by the strong body creases that catch attention to the sills and waistline. The rear end adopt the modern BMW SUV look, like the X3, bit with the light silhouette and internal graphic that consistent with the recent crops of car like F20 and F30. The show car wears a lot of chunky chrome trimmings on the bumper and sills. 

The interior in essence is typical BMW architecture. The layout is production feasible, while the proud stand alone screen already features prominently in the new 1 Series and 3 Series. So by removing those one-off material and control panel surroundings, and replace them with contemporary BMW steering, meter binnacle, climate and audio control, i-drive control and gearknob and we won't stray far.

BMW Active Tourer Concept measures 4,359mm long, 1,834mm wide, 1,560mm tall and 2,670mm wheelbase. The Concept car is powered by  BMW new 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine driving the front wheels, paired to a synchronous electric motor driving the rear axle. Total system output is 188hp, with 8s century sprint and a top speed of around 200km/h. Average fuel consumption is 2.5L/100km with CO2 emissions of less than 60g/km. Infiniti Emerg-E eco-supercar revealed

The design of the Infiniti Emerg-E was leaked out from the patent office earlier this month. Now, the real deal has been revealed ahead of its Geneva unveiling. Emerg-E is the concept car by Infiniti, designed to showcase the svelte new Infiniti design cues and the range-extender drivetrain. The drivetrain is mid-mounted in this application. At the moment, details are still scarce, but the wait is just two weeks before the Geneva Motorshow raise its curtain. For now, just enjoy the Japanese concept car that is as stylish as the Italian!

Youngman Artiga Concept in Malaysia - Satria Neo FL?

Remember the Youngman Artiga concept car from Shanghai Motorshow back in April this year? If you not, head to Paultan page here. That very car is a Satria Neo, with redesign front end, and souped up with all the skirting in the world. The asthmatic Campro engine has been supercharged in this concept. This could be the product like RCR Europestar ( a LHD Gen2 with Youngman emblem and littered with Engineered By Lotus tag all over the place), but since the deal with Youngman and Lotus has reportedly been on the verge of break-up, this deal seems like a distant unlikeliness. Anyhow, ericmaxman has the photo set of Artiga car in Malaysia. In the pictures, it looks like the ground floor carpark at COE.

The front end has been totally reworked for this rebadged exercise. Although the front bumper has similar lower side intake with R3 Satria Neo bodykit, thats the only similarities. After such as effort, any plan to convert this to Satria Neo FL? Perhaps a for a run-out model. Do you realize that Satria Neo has never been facelifted in its now 5 years of life?

If you think the front end is aggressive, wait till you see the rear. There is a massive diffuser back there, with a  very steep angle at that. This is when the aesthetic overtakes CFD.

Land Rover DC100 Concept

Land Rover has revealed the second concept Defender, dubbed DC100 Sport. The concept is an open-top version of its previously unveiled hard-top DC100. Both car previewed the replacement model for the legendary Defender hard-core 4x4, which is due for 2015.

The "speedster" styled 4x4 rides on a massive 22" wheel, and features a 3+3 seating layout, which is also the original cabin layout for Land Rover in its early days. More details and photos after the jump.

Jaguar C-X16 Concept

Jaguar has unveiled the concept C-X16 coupe ahead of Frankfurt Motorshow. The sleek two seater sparked the rumour of new sportscar below the XK model range, competing with the likes of Porsche Cayman.

The stunning concept car is the work-of-art of Ian Callum. It draws inspiration from current XK and C-X75 Concept, with flowing bodylines, somethings Jaguar is famed at.

The car is built on the shortened next generation XK platfrom and powered by hybrid powertrain consists of next generation of Jaguar engine, 3.0 litre V6 supercharged gasoline combined electric motor integrated with 8 speed automatic gearbox driving the rear wheel. The gasoline engine produced 380bhp of power and 450Nm of torque while the electric motor boosts further 95bhp and 235Nm of power and torque. More photos and details after the jump.
