New Avanza is coming to Malaysia & latest Toyota promotion

The new Toyota Avanza, which was launched in November in Indonesia, is coming to Malaysian shore soon. UMW Toyota has run a teaser on their website <here>. The car of course is no stranger to all my blog reader here, as I have put a comprehensive technical coverage on the new Toyota Avanza. For Malaysian market, the 2012 Toyota Avanza will comes in 4 variants, as listed below:

• 1.3 E (MT) = RM63,864
• 1.5 E (AT) = RM71,864
• 1.5 G (AT) = RM76,590
• 1.5 S (AT) = RM78,865

Breaking news - Video of 2012 Toyota Avanza / Daihatsu Xenia

2012 Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia will be launched in Indonesian market on 7th November 2011. The 2012 Xenia and Avanza is visibly featuring more upmarket feature compared to the outgoing model. Bar-type door outside handle, more stylish steering, more cohesive door trim design are among the new stylish touch to the budget MPV. The utilitarian dashboard of current Avanza/Xenia also made way for more classy design, with some overtones from 2011 Perodua Myvi, particularly the top part of the dashboard. 2012 Toyota Avanza/Daihatsu Xenia leaked presentation

Leaked presentation materials for 2012 Toyota Avanza and 2012 Daihatsu Xenia revealed some vital information such the size of the new budget MPV. Both car will grows by around 30mm, taking them close to 4200mm of length. Please refer to my previous post for exterior and interior spyshots:

2012 Toyota Avanza - latest photo

With the launch date getting closer, more "spied" photos of Toyota Avanza/Daihatsu Xenia become available. The circulating photos are all look like they are from salesman/dealer review and briefing, judging by the number of people surrounding the car. Below are the latest photo on the net, which outline clearly the more curvy side of Avanza 2012, compared to its utilitarian predecessor.

While the MPV is almost confirm still sitting on commercial ladder-frame platfrom (i.e small lorry), the designer has put greater effort in making the budget MPV sleeker. The raked rear D-pillar and shapely rear combi for example has reduced the bland proportion of current Toyota Avanza.

With the Veloz version here, the raked pillar is further enhanced with sportier spoiler and rear bumper. Overall, the new MPV is perhaps a bit nicer and will be able to put the battle to Nissan Grand Livina, and in case of Malaysian market, to Perodua Alza and Proton Exora, whom looks drastically more modern in their detailing. Toyota Avanza 2012 - detail spyshots of exterior and interior

Toyota Avanza is the hottest selling vehicle in Indonesian market. However, the 2003-launched model is getting long in the tooth. In Malaysian market at least, the introduction of modern mini-MPV such as Nissan Grand Livina, Perodua Alza and Proton Exora has totally outclassed the Toyota budget MPV. It loses out on exterior aesthetic and interior architecture.

The new Avanza is set to be anything but of the above. Judging from the recent leaked photos, it appeared that Toyota has leaped out from their typical styling complacency. The front end design has some Passo Sette overtones in it, especially in headlamp design with reverse curvature in its bottom edge. The side mirror is more stylish, instead of bearing a resemblance to dumbo the elephant.

There seems to be two front end finishing, probably a "Standard" and "Sporty" differentiation. The dark blue model below have a chrome bar in the middle of radiator grille, whereas the white colored car has the chrome hood garnish at the leading edge of the hood instead. The bumper on white car also have bigger lower bumper intake and different surfacing surrounding the foglamp.

Arenakereta reader has spotted the 2012 Avanza on Malaysia highway. The most important facts from the photo is the two different rear bumper design spotted on the two MPV on the truck. The white Avanza has circular rear reflector and more pronounced sills. The silver Avanza in front of it has different rear bumper, with horizontal reflector design instead. The sills is flat, indicating no side skirt was fitted. The white one is probably similar to the photo above, representing a "Sporty" variant.
