Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has released the September sales statistic. Perodua Myvi continue to lead the sales chart, Perodua continue to resume biggest portion in the 2011 sales and Proton Saga is the so far the best selling car in Malaysia, by a slim margin.
The new Myvi outsold Proton Saga by merely 467 units in September, 200 unit less than in August. However, Proton Saga is still the best-selling car this year up to September with 2343 unit lead. If the rate of sales difference between these two models remain the same, Proton has their shot to become the Malaysia best selling car in 2011, status that been so long dissociate with Proton.
The top five continues to be occupied by same player. The pricey and ageing Viva remain in third, while the Persona is still selling 3085 units in what is essentially in its final full year before passing the batton to P3-21A. Proton Exora continued to be beaten by Perodua Alza, as it has always been. Perhaps a more powerful Exora Turbo will fix the remedy? Or perhaps Malaysian is more keen on sub-MPV? Should Proton answer with kind of smaller MPV derived from next Saga platform, Saga MPV anyone??
Honda City and Nissan Grand Livina complete the top 10. Both of these model, together with higher selling Toyota Vios, remain the bread and butter car chosen by many Malaysian over the national car. These cars are seen as "I've made it" kind of thing, albeit in lower grade, that they have progressed in their career and financial standing to be able to afford non-local brand. I personally feel that these cars bears no significant advantage to the national. Strip them down and you'll what I mean. The entry to "real" Japanese cars actually start with the like of Corolla Altis, Honda Civic etc.
Elsewhere further down the stats, Toyota Avanza occupied the 11th position with 658 units. This model is actually near its end of life as the 2012 Avanza will be launched (in Indonesia) reputedly this month. Read here for 2012 Toyota Avanza. Nissan Livina X-Gear has received warm reception, and moved straight to 15th position is its first month of sales, registering 536 units.
