There are two version of VW Passat globally, what we are getting here is the European Passat instead of the American Passat. The American Passat is slightly bigger while the one we are getting is slightly shorter in length. All three cars are powered by VW TSI engine and paired with 7 speed DSG transmission. Read on for the details of each model.
Volkswagen Jetta Technical Details
Volkswagen Jetta that we are getting in our shore is the 160PS TSI version, powered by 1,390cc 4-cylinder engine with Twincharger and direct injection system. The TSI engine gave a healthy 160PS@5800 rpm and 240Nm from 1500-4500 rpm, and paired to 7 speed DSG gearbox. The combination of powerful engine and efficient gearbox enabled this car to accelerate to 100km/h in 8.3seconds and can achieve 221 km/h of top speed.
VW Jetta is essentially a booted Golf. However, for this generation, VW has gone a greater length in differentiating the two by enlarging the notchback version by even extending the wheelbase. VW Jetta is 4,644mm long, 1,778mm wide and 1,482mm tall. It rides on 2,651mm wheelbase. There is no trace of booted sedan syndrome here as the car looks cohesively integrated even from the side profile. The Malaysian market car rides on 225/55 R16 tyres.
VW Jetta is priced at RM149,888.

Volkswagen Passat Technical Details
The VW Passat Malaysian are getting is the smaller Euro version instead of its American cousin. The direction that VW Malaysia has taken is actually the opposing one compared to many marque here, particularly the Japanese brand where they were normally set their eyes firmly in sight of the American models. Honda Accord is the long-time example in this case.
The VW Passat for Malaysian market is powered by turbocharged 1.8l with direct injection systems. This engine produced 160PS@5000-6200 rpm and 250Nm@1500-4200rpm of power and torque respectively. On paper at least, this engine has a wider optimum speed range compared to the smaller capacity twincharger engine. As the Jetta, this powertrain channeled the drive via 7 speed DSG gearbox too.
The Passat is capable of 8.5 seconds century sprint on its way to 220 k/h top speed.
The sedan is 4,769mm long, 1,820mm wide and 1,470mm tall. The passenger is cocooned within the 2,712mm wheelbase. The 17" wheel is wrapped around by 235/45 R17 tyres.
The 1.8l VW Passat is priced at RM184,888.

The CrossTouran is powered by the twincharger and direct injection 1.4l like the one in Jetta, albeit in the detuned form. In this application, the engine produced 140PS@5600rpm and 220Nm@1250-4500rpm of power and torque respectively. As with the previous two cars, drive is channeled through the 7 speed DSG transmission. The 7 seater can reached 100 km/h in sub 10 seconds and the top speed is 198 km/h.
The compact MPV rides on 2,677mm wheelbase. The envelope of its body is 4,406mm long, 1,799mm wide and 1,685mm tall. Wheel is 17" in size and is wrapped in 215/50 R17 for the front and 235/45 R17 for the rear.
